Human Geo 12/12/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about how the exams were going to go and which room we were going to be in. Mr. Schick told us that we would have mainly multiple choice questions with one constructed response question and we talked a lot about the concept of the demographic transition chart and how we would have to look at all of the different stages of the chart and show how each of them meant a different stage for a different country and how every stage meant a different place with birth rate and death rate. In stage one a country has a high birth rate and a high death rate, in stage two a country has a high birth rate and a rapidly decreasing death rate, in stage three the death rate slows its fall and the birth rate begins to fall, in stage four the death rate has flattened out and the birth rate is starting to mellow out at the bottom, with stage five both the birth and death rate are low but the death rate is higher.

Human Geo 12/11/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about how we thought all of our exams were going to go and if we thought that we would pass all of them or if we would have trouble with a lot of them or just one of them because it might be a subject that we are not good at. The two subjects that I will have the most trouble with are English and Biology because I got a B in both of those classes last quarter and I really want to get A's in them but I am close to a C in English and I have a C in Biology but I am terrible at Biology and I hate the class because I do not understand how to study for the tests that we take and I always end up getting a bad grade and it makes me and my dad very mad. I want to get the best grades possible because it means a lot to me to prove that I can put in the work and get it done when I need to.

Human Geo 12/7/17

Today in Human Geography Mr. Schick was not in school so we had a substitute and we were allowed to start working on how we thought we were going to study for our exams and I need to figure out exactly what it is on so that I can study the exact material for the exam so that I can get the best possible grade which I need to be able to get straight A's and that would be great for the first semester and then I will be switching classes to gym from health and a couple of my other classes were switching to other things. I do not know if my off-mod will be changed and I hope it does not because I have the same off-mod as the game club teacher and we are allowed to go to his room and play games which is a lot of fun and I am glad that he does it because he is very good at the game we play which is cool because it is a lot of competition when a bunch of us play together with up to 8 people which is always a different result.

Human Geo 12/6/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about the answers to the pop quiz and when he was talking about them only two people in our class got 100% on it which surprised me because a lot of people said that they got 100% when we first took in but the two people that did, nobody expected and Dominic, who everybody did expect to get 100% did not but I only got a 50% so I should stop hating on other people. I was mad at myself for doing so bad because I thought that I did a lot better but I failed and it dropped my grade to a B from a middle A which really sucks because I want and need straight A's and I am close to having a C which would kill me.

Human Geo 12/5/17

Today in Human Geography we took a pop quiz which I was not ready for and I noticed that Mr. Schick just posted the results and I got a 10/20 which is a 50% and it caused my grade to drop from a middle A to a high B which hurts because I need straight A's to keep my academic scholarship but I might be able to have 2 B's but now I have 3 B's which one is close to an A but the other two are closer to C's which I would hate because my dad would get extremely pissed off at me and never stop yelling at me for needing to do better even if I try my best. I want to get straight A's because it means that I am doing well in my classes and I will get Honor Roll which would be awesome to get in my first year of High School and I would just feel good about it because it is a big thing and it is very hard to do because I am in very tough classes and I want to keep working hard to keep getting straight A's once I do get them.

Human Geo 12/1/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about a thing called a Demographic transition chart which tracks all of the countries that go from pre-industrial to industrial to post-industrial and how each of the countries that were in the video from yesterday were in different stages along this chart. The video and this chart are helpful together because when you looked at the graph you could get a picture of where they were on the graph and how they corresponded to each other to get more specific measurements for each of the other countries that were on the graph. I noticed that countries started to get healthier and richer during the industrial stage and that they are continuing to get healthier in the post-industrial due to how much everything that they did changed and how it influenced how everybody around the world and in their own countries would live their lives and how it was going to be either good or bad which is still yet to be seen.

Human Geo 11/30/17

Today in Human Geography we watched a video on how less than 40 years ago all of the countries were poor and sick except for the UK and the Netherlands who were not that far ahead but they were still doing better than the rest. In 1940 they were wider spread than ever and more of the countries are closer to rich and healthy but almost all of Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa are still poor and sick. It was in 2009 when all of the countries started getting to Rich and healthy but not a lot have the most money but they still have a high life expectancy which means that they are healthy. Some of the provinces in China when split off from the whole they appear to be like the Sub-Saharan African countries that are stuck behind because of bad diseases and they cannot grow a lot of food and they will continue to have a low life expectancy until they can fix their problems.

Human Geo 11/27/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about our tests and got them back and I saw that I got a 98% on it and I missed one question but I did not get the extra credit questions because one of them was a close reading question and I did not pay attention to exactly what it said but only one person got it correct because the right answer was zero and the only person to get it right was Dylan and Dominic was the only one who got the second extra credit question right so he ended up with a 102% on the test. The question I got wrong was very confusing because it was talking about the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The question was asking about which nation had the highest net migration rate and the correct answer was Canada but I put the United States because did not remember learning that specific answer but I could have been more prepared.

Human Geo 11/21/17

Today in Human Geography we got to look at a website called Kiva and we just got to explore and see if we thought that some of the things on the website were interesting and I noticed that it is just for donating money to people and you can give a minimum of 25 dollars and you can only donate to a person one time. I liked this because we could pick the people that we thought deserved it most and I saw about a woman that was raising money to pay for hospital expenses because she had already had a kid but she was having another one and needed to pay for the bills that were coming when she did give birth and all the times she had to check on her process. I noticed that she had a long time before her donation time was over and she only needed $175 to pay for all of the expenses that she would have to cover. I hope she either gets the funds or I am happy that she did get them depending on the next time I check it.

Human Geo 11/20/17

Today in Human Geography we took the test and I am very glad that I studied for it because everything that I studied was on the test and this helps because I knew what all of the answers were and I believe that I am going to get an A but if I do not it will be a very close B but I will be upset at myself for not getting a good grade of an A. The only two question that I did not know were the bonus questions on the back of the test. I do not think that I got any of these right and I would be very surprised if I did. I also got to work on anything else that I did not finish so I was able to finish my biology work that I thought I turned in but I guess I did not because it said that I did not and I found it in my book not turned in or fully completed.

Human Geo 11/16/17

Today in Human Geography we kept going over presentations that people made for the go for an A or go for a B project and I noticed that more people today went for a B than the last two days combined, 3 groups out of 5 or 6 today went for a B and from the last two days only two groups went for a B and the rest went for A's because people may need the A grade because their grade might not be that high and they want to bring it up or they have an A and they just want their grade to be even higher than it already is. I noticed that on veracross, Mr. Schick posted my grade for it and I saw that my group got an 81/100 on the presentation and it is a B but it is very close to a C and I was surprised because I thought that we were going to get a much higher grade on the presentation than we did because we worked very hard on it and we did a very good job presenting.

Human Geo 11/15/17

Today in Human Geography we continued hearing project presentations from groups and my group had to go first today. I do not like speaking in front of classes and I did not like this because people were very disrespectful like Ryan and they were just sitting on their computers doing whatever they wanted while we were trying very hard to present the project that we worked our butts off to do and finish to try and get an A while other groups like the one yesterday only went for a B. This frustrated me because it is a very tough class and all I wanted to do was present my project so that I could get an A and bring my grade up from the B that it dropped to because of the first pop quiz that we then re-took because almost everybody got a bad grade on it. I hope that we got an A on the project because it would help me tremendously and I would feel better about having to do a project like that again.

Human Geo 11/14/17

Today in Human Geography we started listening to the presentation projects by people that either went for an A or went for a B. Only one group did the go for a B project which surprised Mr. Schick because all of the groups in his HONORS class did a go for an A project and most of the projects in our class did go for an A project and my group did a go for an A project and I think that the rest of the groups did a go for an A project. I think that my group will get an A because we did everything that was required to the greatest standard of what we can do and if we get a B I will be upset and I will want to know why it happened and what we could have done better. If we do get an A I will be happy but if we get a low A I would just want to know what we could have done better so that we can do better the next time we do a project.

Human Geo 11/9/17

Today we had a pop quiz in Human Geography which just made my grade get dive bombed to a lot less than the 100% that I had before. I hate the pop quizzes because they make me fell really stupid when I get simple answers wrong and I never know what they are going to be on. I didn't like this pop quiz in particular because we only had 10 seconds after Mr. Schick read the question, to answer it before it disappeared and we could not see it again and only 3 people got 100% on it which is more than the last pop quiz that we took where only one person got a 100% and that was Dominic who should not be in the class because he gets 100%'s on everything he does in Human Geography and in English class so nobody was surprised by this. We then talked about if we liked the class or not and I was in the middle and one person did not like the class because they said it was too much to remember.

Human Geo 11/8/17

Today in Human Geography we looked at the different population pyramids for different cities and it was interesting to see the different countries and their representation as a population pyramid. Some of the specific countries we looked at were Chad, the United States, Japan, and another one called something but i cannot remember it. Chad's population pyramid looked like a Christmas tree because a lot of kids are being born but not a lot of kids are living to adulthood so the families have a lot of kids to try and counter that but it does not work and only hurts the country even more. The United States was represented by a population pyramid in the shape of a box because an even amount of people being born are living to be old and we have OK health care that helps people live longer. Japan has representation by a population pyramid that looks like a cup because they take care of their old mainly and do not have time for kids to take care of as well and they do not have immigrants

Human Geo 11/6/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about the power point more and finished it but then we started a new power point and it was about population pyramids and we learned about the three different types of population pyramids. The first type is in the shape of a Christmas tree and it is for developing nations that have a high birth rate but not many people live much longer after they are born and some do not life through their kid years. The second type is the box and this is for developed countries that have a low infant mortality rate and are around the same amount of people being born as dying. The third type is the cup and this is for developed countries that have negative growth with a low birth rate because they mainly have old people that they take care of and not many people have time to also take care of young children as well as older people that are close to dying and need a lot of attention to make sure that they live as long as they can.

Human Geo 11/2/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about Total Fertility Rate which is the total number of kids born per woman in the world or in a country. For a population to remain the same, a country must have a TFR of 2.1 and if it is higher than 2.1, then the population will rise but if it is lower than 2.1, the population of the country will decrease. The world TFR is at 2.42 which means that it is rising, the US has a TFR of 2.01 but because of immigration our population is still rising, Nigeria has a TFR of 6.89 because it is a developing country and grows very quickly, and Japan has a TFR of 1.4 because they are a developed nation but they do not have immigrants and most of their population is very ancient Japanese people and leaders.

Human Geo Halloween

Today in Human Geography we took more notes and we learned about push and pull factors and how they affect immigration to different places like the United States and Canada. We also talked about how Canada has higher taxes than America because they have health care for the entire country and they need the higher taxes to pay for them and in the United States we do not have that and everybody is on their own unless the government caused it in some way. We also talked about push and pull factors and some push factors are Civil War, environmental degradation, unemployment or underemployment, and religious or ethnic persecution. Some pull factors are better economic opportunity, better health services, religious freedom, and political freedom.

Human Geo 10/30/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about life expectancy and I learned that in Monaco, where only the richest people can live, they have a life expectancy average of 89.52 years with men at 85.63 years and 93.58 years for women. The United States is in 42nd with an average of 79.68 years with men at 77.32 years and women at 81.97 years. The lowest is the country of Chad with an average of 49.81 years with men at 48.64 years 51.03 years. We also talked about Net Migration Rate and how Canada has 5.65 migrants per 1000 people and the United States has 2.45 migrants per 1000 people but the United States is higher because we have a lot more people than Canada does so it is not as easy to measure how close or how far it is. Mexico has -1.68 migrants per 1000 people because a lot of people are leaving the country to seek a better place for themselves and their families if they have one.

Human Geo 10/27/17

Today in Human Geography we took a lot of notes and we looked at how the world's population is changing all the time and some of the statistics were that there are 7.5 billion people in the world right now and every 12 years it goes up another billion and in 2011 there were 7 billion people in the world. In 1804 there were 1 billion people in the world and it took over 10,000 years to get to that point. Mr. Schick told us that from the time that he was born the world's population has doubled and 90% of the population growth from the world comes from developing countries. We also learned that because India does not have a limit on how many children people can have, their population is skyrocketing and it will soon take China's spot as the country with the highest population in the world.

Human Geo 10/25/17

Today in Human Geography we took our test and I was surprised at the questions that I found because one of the questions that I suggested for the test was actually on it as were other students' questions and so it was like we had made our own test like at Build-A-Bear workshop. I feel good about it but there were two questions that I was confused on and one of the was where we had to figure out what place was at the points 0 degrees North or South and 78 degrees West. It was hard to figure this out because I do not remember learning it in class and I hope that I got the question correct but I am not sure that I did.

Human Geo 10/24/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about our blogs from last night with the questions that we wanted to see on the test and one of the questions that I picked was "What is the biggest country according to land mass," and the answer is Russia. One that a lot of people shared was about what three countries are the biggest with population whit China in first, India in second, and the United States is in third. A third question was "What is a cartographer," and the answer is that a cartographer is a person who makes maps. A question I had is What are N to S lines called and that is Meridians. Another is what are E to W lines called and they are parallels.

Human Geo 10/23/17

Today for my blog my three questions are: 1. What are the top three countries in the world in order? China, India, and U.S.A 2. What is the smallest country in the world? the Pitcairn Islands 3. How many countries are in the whole world and which one is the biggest? there are 237 countries in the world and Russia is the biggest. I would hope to see these and it would be good to see them because I know the answer to each one of them.

Human Geo 10/19/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about why Mr. Schick was not in class yesterday and we learned that it was because he had to put his dog Fredrick Doglass down and he showed us a picture and then we started sharing stories about our own dogs and a kid named Ryan shared a really sad story. He said that one day he was playing with his dog and that when he threw a ball his dog ran and then slowed down before slowing down and collapsing. Mr. Schick then was talking about how they got Fredrick Doglass and told us that he had very messed teeth because he had been chewing on a chain he was attached to.

Human Geo 10/18/17

Today in Human Geography Mr. Schick was not present so we took notes on our own on the rest of his blog and there were a lot of things that we would have read and went deeper into if Mr. Schick had been in school. One of the things we would have gone deeper into is that when geographers look at the world in a global scale, they tend to see broad patterns. Two definitions of globalization I found on the web were 1.  globalization is the process of interote integration arising from the interchange ideas and other aspects of culture 2.  globalize develop on be developed so as to make possible intenation influences or operation I have my shirt made by Land's End in Cambodia My pants made by American Eagle in Bangladesh My planner made by Order Out Of Chaos in America

Human Geo 10/17/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about how we went over the maps from a long time ago with how each place in the world voted and that Texas and many other states voted for Trump and in Maryland, Harford  county voted for Trump but Maryland still was won by Hillary and so was Illinois because Chicago voted for her but Trump still won the election. Not many states changed the way they voted from Kerry to Obama but the ones that did, it was not a very significant amount because the states that voted democratic were very large and worth a lot of electoral votes because the electoral votes are the ones that matter because you need at least 270 when running for President to win the election.

Human Geo 10/13/17

Today in Human Geography we explored the CIA website more and had to look at different places or countries around the world and we then had to pick one and share what we thought was an interesting fact about it. I chose Bermuda and my fact was that  Bermuda was first settled in 1609 by shipwrecked English colonists heading for Virginia. Self-governing since 1620, Bermuda is the oldest and most populous of the British overseas territories. I thought that this was interesting because I did not know that Bermuda was the oldest of the British colonies and I did not even know that it was colonized by the British. I was also surprised that it is the most populous of all of the British territories.

Human Geo 10/12/17

Today in Human Geography we got a version  of the world in two different maps and using a CIA website we found the top 25 countries in the world and labeled where they were on the different maps and after we did that we could add any other places we wanted but I did not because we were almost out of time when I finished. I was looking around at the website during my off-mod for the day and I saw a lot of things that were interesting like how America is a smaller country than China and India because both of them have over 1 million people in their population and America does not even have half a million people living here. I thought this was interesting because I thought America had a lot more people in it But I was wrong and a lot of countries don't even have 100,000 people.

Human Geo 10/10/17

Today in Human Geography we got back our pop quizzes on the two maps that were in a packet that we did a few days or a week prior to taking the pop quiz and I was surprised that I only got one wrong when I thought I would get a lot more wrong because I did not study and was not prepared for it. We also learned about Cultural Regions and how culture is a complex concept because it can have two different meanings. The first meaning is to care about which means to adore or worship something, as in the modern word cult. The second meaning is to take care of which means to nurse or look after something, as in the modern word cultivate. We then got into groups of three and started looking at a map of regions and giving three distinct or defining characteristics for each. The class time ran out before we could get to the final step of creating a chart that compares the cultural differences between the regions which I think we will start finishing this on Thursday.

Human Geo 10/5/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about time and how it related to the rest of the world and us. We talked about how when at 1:30 it was 12:30 in the next time zone because we are an hour ahead of them but in the time zone to our right it would be 2:30 because they are an hour ahead. We also talked about how you cannot measure the present time because it is so small that if you make it something then you can always shrink it and you are forced to because now is only a way of speaking but is only true for the shortest possible amount of time which we cannot measure.

Human Geo 10/4/17

Today in Human Geography we finished looking at the election maps for the three elections prior to President Trump's election. We talked about how even though Hillary won the popular vote, Trump got at least 270 electoral votes which is why he is President. One unique state was Illinois because Trump was winning most of the state but the biggest city, Chicago, voted for Hillary and she got the electoral votes for Illinois. We also finished defining the specific regions for each of the places on the map and how they voted by looking at a map that Mr.Schick showed us and a lot of the groupings for regions were the same as how they voted.

Human Geo 10/3/17

Today in Human Geography we talked about Cultural landscape, and different types of Regions.  We also looked at three different maps where it included how the states voted in the three elections before Trump's and we had to put them into regions. I noticed that when Obama was running for president a lot of states that had been red in the prior election turned blue around Michigan and California but a lot of states stayed the same color and voted for the same party of either Democratic or Republican. Maryland always votes Republican but Texas always votes Democratic and both of these states are not swing states and will never change the way they vote.

Human Geo 9/29/17

Yesterday in Human Geography we talked a lot about why American people were losing jobs and it was because in places like China, Vietnam, and others they do not have a required minimum pay like in America. Another student in our class name Carl is from China and he talked about how even though the workers have some of the same rights they are not allowed a minimum pay and this is because the companies that they work for provide most of the things that they need so that they do not have to spend their own money to buy it. this helps their economy a lot because they export almost all of what they make and get paid good money and buy the things that they need from others. I was surprised by how things were run in China because it is so different from the way we live and I feel bad for the international students because we are so different from them and they have to learn a completely different language.

Human Geo 9/28/17

Today in Human Geography we finally finished our first paragraph on what we had to take notes on and most of our second paragraph if not all of it. We talked today about situation and how with the way that Houston and New Orleans are situated as mostly concrete so that they got rid of land that could soak up extra water and not flood. They flooded this time because the water had nowhere to go and it was not able to be soaked up by land that could use it. We also talked about that most of the people are going to have to spend thousands of dollars to pay for everything that they lost because since they get hit by hurricanes so frequently that insurance companies do not allow flood insurance. Because of this many people will either be in debt or bankrupt and it will make America's debt even greater and it is already high enough and it was raised again to pay for Harvey relief.

Human Geo 9/27/17

Today in Human Geography we were talking about a new topic that we were going to learn but it is still about maps. We talked a lot about what we were taking notes on and it is a lot of information because we only finished the first two sentences of the paragraph which does not look that long but there is probably more when we finish the first paragraph. We learned about site and situation.  Some important site characteristics that we talked about were climate, water sources, topography, soil, vegetation, latitude, and elevation.  These are important because every time we wrote down a new one we talked for a long time about how it affected the places around where they could be found or how they affected nature. During water sources  I said that the Nile River in Egypt was important because it provides transportation, agriculture, and more because of how it is placed and nobody live very far from it.

Human Geo 9/25/17

Today in Human Geography we went over the answers for our big picture and a closer look maps and we started talking about Africa and that got us on to the topic of Kim Jong Un and how if he does launch a missile it would affect most of America. If we were to nuke North Korea, the consequences would be dire because the particles could get into China and they would attack us or they could get into Russia and they would attack and it would start a World War III. If this were to happen most of the world would not be habitable and all of America would probably perish in the battle because Russia has more citizens and China is smaller but has a lot of help from others. We also talked that president Trump is not helping by calling Kim Jong Un rude names and threatening him.

Human Geo 9/21/17

Today in Human Geography we learned more about the world we live in and we had to show the maps that we drew and mine were the worst because I cannot draw. I accidentally drew the United States too large and I could not fit half of the world and I also did not label what I needed to and then I had to show my route to school and I did better and I also labeled what I was supposed to but I still got full credit for my work. We also took a lot of note on what we were going to be learning next and it is still on the path of thinking Geographically. Two of our main words are place and regions . Place is a specific point on the world while a region is a group of points in a large place on the Earth.

Human Geo 9/20/17

Today in Human Geography we took more notes and we started drawing what we thought the world looked like and since I am really bad at drawing my map looks really bad and I drew everything really out of proportion. We also got our tests back and I got an 80 on it. We also have to draw what our path to school almost every day is and mine is really basic. I get driven into old-town Bel-Air and I get driven to the intersection and turn left at Looney's and in the right lane we go straight until we get to school on the right and then we turn and we drive in the loop to the front of school and then me and my friend get out and wait until the end of the day when we get picked up and drive home. I am terrible at drawing so the pictures and path will look very bad and I just hope that Mr. Schick will be able to read what it is and what the path is.

Human Geo 9/18/17

Today in Human Geo we got to work on any homework we had from other teachers and do the blogs that are due tonight. Mr. Schick is letting us do this because two students have not finished the test and are starting today and he wanted to grade more people's tests from last night that he could not finish because he worked on 160 other assignments that were for his other classes. We could also decide to take a nap or other things. I decided to do my blog so that I have less to do tonight and everything is still fresh in my mind. Mr. Schick says that he will not do this everyday but there will be some days where he does and we have to stay quiet or else we will ruin what he is doing.

Human Geo 9/15/17

Today in Human Geography we learned about the difference between the two maps that were in the back of the classroom and the things that were wrong i had never known about. The map on the right when looking at them is incorrect and was first created over 400 years ago and the one on the left actually shows the real size and Africa is huge.

Human Geo 9/14/17

Today in Human Geography we truly started and we started by looking at 2 different maps and identifying the region in which a place was located. We also learned about four key questions to our first Human Geography unit and we also learned that if one of us cries Mr. Schick will be very happy but not as happy as when the cubs won the world series. I know that I will not cry and that I will be able to get an A in the class no matter how hard it gets. Somebody I know thinks the same way and I hope that they get an A as well because it would be great and I would hate for them to fail. I wonder what tomorrow's class will be like.

Human Geo 9/12/17

Today in Human Geo we took our test and I was surprised at how easy it was and I am glad that I studied but I wished I studied a little bit harder because I forgot the spelling of the Mountains name Denali but now I know because of Google. I also wish that i could remember what the name of a person who wrote notes in shorthand was called but i am pretty sure it is secretary and that might be the only question I got wrong. We only had a couple questions about Elbert Hubbard and i forgot when the A Message to Garcia  essay was written. It was written in March of 1899 and sold over 40 million copies. I believe that I got a good grade and I will stay at an A because I need straight A's to be able to bring my phone to school. I have A's in all of my classes except for Honors biology because I did not turn something in but now I have and I think that I will get a good grade because I worked very hard on it and I want to have straight A's to keep my academic scholarship.

Human Geo 9/11/17

Today in class we were using the Socratic method to ask and respond to questions about what we thought was going to be on our next assignment and one of the questions asked was about how Socrates died. He died because he was accused of impiety and corrupting the youth and his defense was that he was trying to keep them moving and that he should be rewarded with free dinners for life and in a jury of 500, 279 voted him guilty and 221 said that he was not. He was to be put to death by poison hemlock which is a slow and painful way to go and some of his jailers tried to let him out but he said no to prove his trust in Athenian democracy. Another question was about who Elbert Hubbard was. He is the one who wrote a Message to Garcia  to show people how sloppy they were. The story got printed more than 40 million times and was typed in 37 different languages. Another question was about who Rowan was. Rowan is the man who took the message to Garcia with no questions and completed the dangerou

Human Geo 9/8/17

Today in Human Geography we talked more about all of the things on our excellence power point and we also talked about hurricane Irma and how it had already devastated all of the tropical islands as a category five and was going to hit us as a category four. We were talking that we hoped it would stay in a straight path into the United States because then the East coast would not get crushed and the West coast with Houston would not get hit again. We also talked about the people in Mexico that got hit by an earthquake in the middle of the night. I pray that God keeps all of these people safe in their times of trouble.

Human Geo 9/6/17

Today in human geography we went over the words that we started talking about yesterday and i learned about the agora, polis, the importance of 508 BC to the Greeks, Socrates, Socrates' death, the Socratic method, and what the ancient Greeks meant if they called you an idiot. The agora was a meeting place where people would have discussions whether for a market or just as friends. The polis were political entities that were ruled by their bodies of citizens. 508 BC was important because it was the first time in recorded human history that anybody rebelled against their ruler. Socrates was a Greek philosopher who created the Socratic method of ask many questions and give answers. Socrates was found guilty of 2 crimes and was sentenced to death by way of drinking poison hemlock which was a slow and painful way to go. The ancient Greeks meant that if they called you an idiot you could not talk at the agora with other people.

Human Geo 9/5/17

Today during class we went over a presentation about the word excellence and how it was involved with the book A Message to Garcia  which is also just an essay that Elbert Hubbard wrote to tell about how lazy people were and that when a man named Rowan was asked to take a letter to the leader of the resistance named Garcia, he did it with no hesitation and no questions. This book/essay took place during the Spanish-American War and Garcia was a revolutionary seeking freedom from Spain. The president at the time was William McKinley who was assassinated six months into his second term as president and he gave a message to Rowan who was an army officer and after he is done the Cuban revolutionaries eventually win the battle. The tallest mountain was also named after Rowan until 2015 when they changed it back to the original name. We also learned that the only thing that separates us from dogs is the fact that we know that all things will eventually die like dogs but in their lives the on

A Message to Garcia

My interpretation of A Message to Garcia is about how people act and how in a job you try to find a person that does anything you ask without any excuses or stupid replies about needing help or not knowing how to do something. Four themes were present in this story taking the initiative, incompetence, excellence, and inspiration.  The first theme taking the initiative , was shown in the beginning of the story by a man named Rowan took a letter from the president that was addressed to Garcia and four days later was in Cuba and went into the jungle. Four weeks after going into the jungle Rowan came out of the other side from delivering his letter and surviving the country on foot. The biggest thing that Rowan did was that he didn't ask the question of , "where is he at?" Instead he just took the letter and delivered it. The second theme incompetence, was shown in the time of our asking when we are the boss of six clerks and if we ask one of them a simple request they will

Class today for Human Geo

During class today it started off slow with Mr. Schick being late but it was OK because we were already seated in the class with our phones in the bin. We started the lesson with seeing who had already published their first blog post and I was one of the people that had it fully finished and eventually everyone had sent an email with a link to their blog. Some people had not finished our first assignment but as we were going through to see who had I saw mine and Mr. Schick showed it to the class with my permission of course. After we did our things with the blogs we went over the syllabus with what was on it and where we could find it if we wanted to read it or if our parents wanted to. While going over the syllabus people were working on their first blogs but the syllabus was like our ones from other classes but it was specific to Human Geography. I know what blogs are like now so I hope that all my other ones will be as good or better than my first one. I'm confident in school an

First days at John Carroll

My first few days at John Carroll have been a lot of fun with meeting new people and seeing familiar faces from my old school or from camps over the summer. A couple of people I have met used to go to my old school of Fallston Middle but I never noticed them because either they were quiet or I was quiet or we never saw each other. Kids that I used to play sports with now are seeing me again much later and do not recognize me and they eventually will but I have met their new friends as well as my own. I hope that i meet more new people and make a lot of friends that i could become very close with and I believe that I will enjoy my time at John Carroll and I know that all of my fellow students in the class of 2021 will go on to do great things with all of the things that we learn.
