Human Geo 9/29/17

Yesterday in Human Geography we talked a lot about why American people were losing jobs and it was because in places like China, Vietnam, and others they do not have a required minimum pay like in America. Another student in our class name Carl is from China and he talked about how even though the workers have some of the same rights they are not allowed a minimum pay and this is because the companies that they work for provide most of the things that they need so that they do not have to spend their own money to buy it. this helps their economy a lot because they export almost all of what they make and get paid good money and buy the things that they need from others. I was surprised by how things were run in China because it is so different from the way we live and I feel bad for the international students because we are so different from them and they have to learn a completely different language.

Today in Human Geography we finally finished our first paragraph on what we had to take notes on and most of our second paragraph if not all of it. We talked today about situation and how with the way that Houston and New Orleans are situated as mostly concrete so that they got rid of land that could soak up extra water and not flood. They flooded this time because the water had nowhere to go and it was not able to be soaked up by land that could use it. We also talked about that most of the people are going to have to spend thousands of dollars to pay for everything that they lost because since they get hit by hurricanes so frequently that insurance companies do not allow flood insurance. Because of this many people will either be in debt or bankrupt and it will make America's debt even greater and it is already high enough and it was raised again to pay for Harvey relief.

Today in Human Geography we were talking about a new topic that we were going to learn but it is still about maps. We talked a lot about what we were taking notes on and it is a lot of information because we only finished the first two sentences of the paragraph which does not look that long but there is probably more when we finish the first paragraph. We learned about site and situation.  Some important site characteristics that we talked about were climate, water sources, topography, soil, vegetation, latitude, and elevation.  These are important because every time we wrote down a new one we talked for a long time about how it affected the places around where they could be found or how they affected nature. During water sources  I said that the Nile River in Egypt was important because it provides transportation, agriculture, and more because of how it is placed and nobody live very far from it.

Today in Human Geography we went over the answers for our big picture and a closer look maps and we started talking about Africa and that got us on to the topic of Kim Jong Un and how if he does launch a missile it would affect most of America. If we were to nuke North Korea, the consequences would be dire because the particles could get into China and they would attack us or they could get into Russia and they would attack and it would start a World War III. If this were to happen most of the world would not be habitable and all of America would probably perish in the battle because Russia has more citizens and China is smaller but has a lot of help from others. We also talked that president Trump is not helping by calling Kim Jong Un rude names and threatening him.

Today in Human Geography we learned more about the world we live in and we had to show the maps that we drew and mine were the worst because I cannot draw. I accidentally drew the United States too large and I could not fit half of the world and I also did not label what I needed to and then I had to show my route to school and I did better and I also labeled what I was supposed to but I still got full credit for my work. We also took a lot of note on what we were going to be learning next and it is still on the path of thinking Geographically. Two of our main words are place and regions . Place is a specific point on the world while a region is a group of points in a large place on the Earth.

Human Geo 9/20/17

Today in Human Geography we took more notes and we started drawing what we thought the world looked like and since I am really bad at drawing my map looks really bad and I drew everything really out of proportion. We also got our tests back and I got an 80 on it. We also have to draw what our path to school almost every day is and mine is really basic. I get driven into old-town Bel-Air and I get driven to the intersection and turn left at Looney's and in the right lane we go straight until we get to school on the right and then we turn and we drive in the loop to the front of school and then me and my friend get out and wait until the end of the day when we get picked up and drive home. I am terrible at drawing so the pictures and path will look very bad and I just hope that Mr. Schick will be able to read what it is and what the path is.

Human Geo 9/18/17

Today in Human Geo we got to work on any homework we had from other teachers and do the blogs that are due tonight. Mr. Schick is letting us do this because two students have not finished the test and are starting today and he wanted to grade more people's tests from last night that he could not finish because he worked on 160 other assignments that were for his other classes. We could also decide to take a nap or other things. I decided to do my blog so that I have less to do tonight and everything is still fresh in my mind. Mr. Schick says that he will not do this everyday but there will be some days where he does and we have to stay quiet or else we will ruin what he is doing.

Human Geo 9/15/17

Today in Human Geography we learned about the difference between the two maps that were in the back of the classroom and the things that were wrong i had never known about. The map on the right when looking at them is incorrect and was first created over 400 years ago and the one on the left actually shows the real size and Africa is huge.

Human Geo 9/14/17

Today in Human Geography we truly started and we started by looking at 2 different maps and identifying the region in which a place was located. We also learned about four key questions to our first Human Geography unit and we also learned that if one of us cries Mr. Schick will be very happy but not as happy as when the cubs won the world series. I know that I will not cry and that I will be able to get an A in the class no matter how hard it gets. Somebody I know thinks the same way and I hope that they get an A as well because it would be great and I would hate for them to fail. I wonder what tomorrow's class will be like.

Human Geo 9/12/17

Today in Human Geo we took our test and I was surprised at how easy it was and I am glad that I studied but I wished I studied a little bit harder because I forgot the spelling of the Mountains name Denali but now I know because of Google. I also wish that i could remember what the name of a person who wrote notes in shorthand was called but i am pretty sure it is secretary and that might be the only question I got wrong. We only had a couple questions about Elbert Hubbard and i forgot when the A Message to Garcia  essay was written. It was written in March of 1899 and sold over 40 million copies. I believe that I got a good grade and I will stay at an A because I need straight A's to be able to bring my phone to school. I have A's in all of my classes except for Honors biology because I did not turn something in but now I have and I think that I will get a good grade because I worked very hard on it and I want to have straight A's to keep my academic scholarship.

Human Geo 9/11/17

Today in class we were using the Socratic method to ask and respond to questions about what we thought was going to be on our next assignment and one of the questions asked was about how Socrates died. He died because he was accused of impiety and corrupting the youth and his defense was that he was trying to keep them moving and that he should be rewarded with free dinners for life and in a jury of 500, 279 voted him guilty and 221 said that he was not. He was to be put to death by poison hemlock which is a slow and painful way to go and some of his jailers tried to let him out but he said no to prove his trust in Athenian democracy. Another question was about who Elbert Hubbard was. He is the one who wrote a Message to Garcia  to show people how sloppy they were. The story got printed more than 40 million times and was typed in 37 different languages. Another question was about who Rowan was. Rowan is the man who took the message to Garcia with no questions and completed the dangerou

Human Geo 9/8/17

Today in Human Geography we talked more about all of the things on our excellence power point and we also talked about hurricane Irma and how it had already devastated all of the tropical islands as a category five and was going to hit us as a category four. We were talking that we hoped it would stay in a straight path into the United States because then the East coast would not get crushed and the West coast with Houston would not get hit again. We also talked about the people in Mexico that got hit by an earthquake in the middle of the night. I pray that God keeps all of these people safe in their times of trouble.

Human Geo 9/6/17

Today in human geography we went over the words that we started talking about yesterday and i learned about the agora, polis, the importance of 508 BC to the Greeks, Socrates, Socrates' death, the Socratic method, and what the ancient Greeks meant if they called you an idiot. The agora was a meeting place where people would have discussions whether for a market or just as friends. The polis were political entities that were ruled by their bodies of citizens. 508 BC was important because it was the first time in recorded human history that anybody rebelled against their ruler. Socrates was a Greek philosopher who created the Socratic method of ask many questions and give answers. Socrates was found guilty of 2 crimes and was sentenced to death by way of drinking poison hemlock which was a slow and painful way to go. The ancient Greeks meant that if they called you an idiot you could not talk at the agora with other people.

Human Geo 9/5/17

Today during class we went over a presentation about the word excellence and how it was involved with the book A Message to Garcia  which is also just an essay that Elbert Hubbard wrote to tell about how lazy people were and that when a man named Rowan was asked to take a letter to the leader of the resistance named Garcia, he did it with no hesitation and no questions. This book/essay took place during the Spanish-American War and Garcia was a revolutionary seeking freedom from Spain. The president at the time was William McKinley who was assassinated six months into his second term as president and he gave a message to Rowan who was an army officer and after he is done the Cuban revolutionaries eventually win the battle. The tallest mountain was also named after Rowan until 2015 when they changed it back to the original name. We also learned that the only thing that separates us from dogs is the fact that we know that all things will eventually die like dogs but in their lives the on

A Message to Garcia

My interpretation of A Message to Garcia is about how people act and how in a job you try to find a person that does anything you ask without any excuses or stupid replies about needing help or not knowing how to do something. Four themes were present in this story taking the initiative, incompetence, excellence, and inspiration.  The first theme taking the initiative , was shown in the beginning of the story by a man named Rowan took a letter from the president that was addressed to Garcia and four days later was in Cuba and went into the jungle. Four weeks after going into the jungle Rowan came out of the other side from delivering his letter and surviving the country on foot. The biggest thing that Rowan did was that he didn't ask the question of , "where is he at?" Instead he just took the letter and delivered it. The second theme incompetence, was shown in the time of our asking when we are the boss of six clerks and if we ask one of them a simple request they will
